Closed, open! Happy, sad. Night, day. Winter, summer! Old, young. Over, under.
Children observe the 32 puzzle pieces, match the 16 sets together, and identify the contrasting component that defines the two pictures. Through this, they develop their understanding of the logical concept of "opposites".

Instructions: Game of Opposites
Quick Instructions:
Match: Lay out all the puzzle pieces for the child to match the 16 pairs of puzzle pieces and assemble the mini puzzles.
Associate: Encourage the child to look at the contrast depicted in the two similar images. What is the "opposite" you associate with these pictures?
Play: Two simple games are detailed in the instructions. A memory-style matching game could also be played: Lay out all the cards face up and allow the children to study the pieces for 30 seconds before you collectively turn them face down. Children take turns flipping 2 cards over to try get a match. A variation with more difficulty could be to correctly state the word that relates to the opposite quality, once you have turned over the card. To win the pair, you must correctly select them and name the opposites. If you make an error, the cards are turned back over for someone else to try. The player with the most pairs at the end, wins!
